NEW WAYS TO CHIP
Hinge, then turn.. Tim Mahoney
The two most common chip errors are locking the arms and becoming too rigid, or making a backswing that's much too long. These are critical mistakes that destroy the quality of your contact in a heartbeat. This 4-step technique eliminates these problems in an instant, and will help you pitch the ball closer to the hole more often.
SETUP: Assume your normal setup, but make sure your hands are close to your thighs. Feel like your arms and club are connected to your body.
HINGE: Hinge your wrists bakc without rotating your body or turning your shoulders. Just hinge (more for longer shots, less for shorter shots.)
TURN: Now simply turn your body forward. This should drop the clubhead directly down onto the ball, giving you crisp, ball-first contact.
HOLD ON: Don't re-hinge your wrists. Allow your arms to straighten so that the clubshaft is in line with your left arm. This guards against flipping.
