Masters recap

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 9:33 am

Congratulations to Trevor Immelman.

In 1999 and 2000 Tiger Woods was first in total driving.  This year he is in the area of 115th.  He has lost ground to his fellow competitors in distance and accuracy.
Though he putted beneath his capacity at Augusta, a case can be made that if he hit the fairways the way Trevor Immelman did he would have scored much lower.

It was a great tournament.  Yes, Tiger is capable of winning all four majors in the same year, just not this year.

Golf has come to St. Louis, here on April 14th. Hopefully the rain will slow and the snow is over. Let’s have a great year of improvement and fun.

See you soon.

Last Day At Augusta

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 10:39 am

Well, still hard to predict a winner, but you have to love that ever present smile on Brandt Snedeker.

I have watched many shots roll off of the front of 15 green and the one that Trevor Immelman hit on Saturday was the first one I ever saw that stayed out of the water. He may very well be destined to win.

If the winds are high and Tiger plays the round of his life anything can happen. This would be a great day for his first come from behind major win. Unlikely, but not impossible.

Enjoy the tournament.

Spring is here this week. Dust off the clubs.

3rd Day of Masters

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 9:31 am

Just starting to tee off on Sat.

This is a tough tournament to pick.  If I got 4 picks I would go with Tiger, Phil, Trevor and Retief.

If I got two picks I would go for Tiger and Phil, even though Tiger is 7 back at this stage.

It’s a coin toss with one pick.  Don’t be surprised if there is an unexpected winner.

One prediction for sure, those of us who play golf in St. Louis this weekend will be chilly.

Andres Romero plays with Tiger today.  Take a good look at Romero’s stature.  I’m pretty sure he is smaller than Jeff Sluman.

More tomorrow.  This should be fun.

2nd day of Masters

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 8:22 am

Looks like a great weekend to watch golf!  It may not get over 45 degrees this weekend in St. Louis.

After the first round the leaderboard looks strong.  As I write this Trevor Immelman has just birdied the 5th hole to go 5 under for the event.  Lots of golf to play today.

Tiger Woods is certainly in the mix after the first round.  It looks like decent weather for most of the week at Augusta and scores of 10 or 11 under for the event are possible.

We’re keeping our heaters up a little later than usual this year because of the temperatures.  We have also kept our golf balls in use longer than usual because of the turf conditions but you can expect to see new golf balls in circulation this coming week (no later than Wednesday) at Tower Tee.

Have a great weekend.  You can watch Masters live at Masters.com before it comes on the networks.

Have a super weekend.

The Masters 08

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 12:02 pm

We just got back from a Monday viewing at Augusta with 6 first timers.  Safe to say that they were all impressed with the grounds and the players.  If you are a golfer who has never been to Augusta, it is worth putting on your to do list.

The most amazing thing I saw this year was a young player named Andres Romero from Argentina. He is a recent tour winner.  What is amazing is his size.  He is the smallest tour player I have ever seen.  He can hit it.   It’s doubtful that he weighs 130 pounds sopping wet.  Most impressive.
This has been the slowest spring coming in St. Louis in a long time.  Your patience as golfers has been sorely tested.  Those who endure to the end will be saved.  Warm weather is on the way.

Let’s have a great year.

Our new website is going to be up soon.  You’re in for a treat.

Happy golfing everyone.

Golf and the Economy

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 4:44 pm

Hi golfers.

It’s January 18th and the market is a little soft.  Here at Tower Tee you can get a good return on a $10 investment.  A large bucket and all the putting you want or 9 holes on the golf course.

Drop in  before the spring rush.  It’s warm under the heaters.

Tis the Season

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all you  golfers.

Tower Tee wants to thank you for your business and friendship this year.

We are updating the website over the next couple of months and are excited about the new offerings that will be available to you. Keep an eye out. Great things ahead.

Our condolences to those of you who are accustomed to 40/64 travel. We cordially invite you to join us this year. We are 5-7 minutes south of 44 and Laclede if you are eastbound and 5 minutes from Ted Drewes if you are westbound exiting Arsenal to Jamieson.

Our golf course has steadily improved to the point that our greens are some of the finest in the area. We host a Gateway PGA event each June now and the pros who play have been most complimentary after seeing the job superintendent Jeff Brown and his crew have done on the course. It’s the best place in St. Louis to develop your short game.

Congratulations to Sabrina Tate on recently securing her LPGA Class A card. She does a great job as an instructor here.

Bob Gaus got the Gateway PGA player of the year award once again. Congrats to Bob.

Have a great Holiday, we’ll see you in 08.

Peace,

Steve

Ireland

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 11:11 am

Greetings to all you golfers.

Winter is approaching and our heaters are up and working well.  Don’t forget our easy access from I-44 in these times of road construction.

I had an opportunity to play an event in Ireland with 3 local amateurs and just returned.

We played Old Head, Waterville, Ballybunion, and Tralee.

Each course was unique and memorable, but without question Old Head stood out as the most spectacular site for a golf course that I have ever seen (or heard of for that matter).

Only about 10 years old now, Old Head is still gaining favor with the traditionalists in Ireland, but it is a remarkable location with excellent architectural design.  With 400 foot cliffs all around the course leading straight down to the ocean and ocean views on all the holes, it stands out as something very special.

We were lucky enough to have 3 days of sunshine and one day of rain during the event.

Lovely people, lovely scenery.

We’ll see you this winter at the tee.  We are all teaching.  Bob Gaus heads to tour qualifying soon, he is exempt through the first stage.  We wish him well.

Peace,

Steve

Summer of ‘07

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 6:52 am

It’s been a great summer for golf.

A lot has happened since my last entry.

My wife Janice and I are empty nesting now that our son is in California and daughter in Indiana.  Glad we get along so well.

I had the good fortune to caddy for Bob Gaus at the PGA in Tulsa and survived the heat.

Bob played well for a fellow who doesn’t get to be in that environment every week.   He beat some great players and though he didn’t make the cut, it was evident why he has been one of the best players in the St. Louis area for many years.

Padrig Harrington had a great victory in the Open Championship. One of the hardest working players on tour, his up and down for double bogey on the 72nd hole that led to a playoff was a study in fortitude and focus.
Tiger’s 63 on Friday at the PGA proved once again that he is the greatest player in the game today (probably in history) and is unbeatable when his putter is working.  What a remarkable talent.

We are upgrading our equiment in our video booth at Tower Tee  to better serve our students.  On that note, we have enjoyed great success this year assisting the development of a number of young players and have participated with the Future College Golf Association in enabling a number of them to secure golf scholarships for next year.  Keep up the hard work kids!

I will have opportunity to play a 4 day tournament in Ireland in October (yes, I’ll have some sweaters with me) with 3 local amateurs and am excited about the trip.  We will play Tralee, Waterville, Ballybunion and Old Head.  Should be fun.

If you are looking for a great book that is entertaining and could help your game and your life, check out Josh Waitzkin’s  THE ART OF LEARNING.  It is a remarkable read and can be found in the Chess section at your local bookstore or on the web.
August has been hot, and now the best months of the year are upon us.

Come on out and tune up your game.  Easy access from Highway 44.

Peace

2007 PGA Championship & Bob Gaus

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve @ 12:08 pm

I would like to take a moment here to say a  little bit about Bob Gaus, Tower Tee PGA teaching professional.  I have known Bob since he was in his mid teens and have always enjoyed watching his consistent ball striking skills.  Like most outstanding golfers, when his putter is working he is tough to beat.  The record will show that his putter works often.

Multiple recipient of the Gateway PGA Player of the Year and winner of multiple events in Florida, the midwest and the St. Louis area, Bob has proven himself time and again as one of the areas finest players.

This past week, Bob qualified once again for the PGA Championship through the National Club Professional Championship.  He has competed in  PGA championships at Sahalee and  Valhalla and a US open at Medina, and now he’s off to Southern Hills in a few weeks for his 4th major championship.

Besides wishing him all the best, I want to let you, the reader know that Bob has maintained a professional and consistent attitude in his relationships with his golf students through the years.  He takes care to provide professional and courteous service to those who seek out his knowledge of the golf swing and game.

Lee Trevino once asked, “Why should I take a lesson from someone I can beat?”  If students take that approach to seeking out a teacher there are very few folks I have met that could not learn something from Bob Gaus.

At Tower Tee, we are proud of our reputation as coaches of the great game of Golf. Bob, Charlie Bennett, Sabrina Tate and I enjoy spending our time bringing golfers of all levels along. It’s what we do for a living.

It is an honor to call Bob one of us and on behalf of all of us, we wish him a heartfelt GOOD LUCK in Tulsa and much future success.
Keep swinging.

Steve
